FG Warns IBEDC: Rehire Sacked Workers or Face Consequences

The Federal Government has ordered the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to reinstate over 3,000 dismissed workers. This decision comes after a major protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Why Are Workers Protesting?

Last week, NLC members in Oyo State shut down IBEDC offices. They demanded that the sacked workers be reinstated. In addition, they accused the company of failing to pay salaries and making unfair pay cuts. As a result, the protest disrupted power supply in some areas. Consequently, the government had to step in.

Government Takes Action

Now, the Federal Government is warning IBEDC to resolve the issue quickly. Officials say mass layoffs will harm the economy. Moreover, they stress that ignoring workers’ demands could lead to even bigger protests.

What Happens Next?

So far, IBEDC has not responded. However, labor unions insist they will take further action if the company refuses to act.
