Ijaw leaders have strongly opposed the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. They argue that President Bola Tinubu acted on false information. Moreover, the declaration of a state of emergency has added to their frustration.

Ijaw Leaders Speak Out

Professor Benjamin Okaba, President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), believes Tinubu received misleading reports. According to him, the crisis in Rivers State has been misrepresented.

Likewise, HRH Anabs Sara-Igbe, another Ijaw leader, warned that any appointed administrator will be held accountable for their actions in Rivers State.

In addition, Niger Delta activist Ann-Kio Briggs criticized the decision. She insists that Fubara is being unfairly blamed. Meanwhile, former Governor Nyesom Wike and the Speaker of the House face no consequences.

Calls for Action

As a result of these concerns, the INC is demanding Wike’s removal. They accuse him of fueling the political crisis. Furthermore, the group plans to meet with Tinubu to express their grievances.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has denied any involvement in pipeline attacks. He insists that the federal government knows the real culprits and should focus on arresting them instead.

Political Reactions

Many political figures have also condemned the suspension. For instance, former Governor Rotimi Amaechi called it illegal. He urged the National Assembly to reject what he calls an “unlawful power grab.”

Overall, tensions continue to rise. However, Ijaw leaders remain committed to seeking fairness. They urge the federal government to reconsider its actions and restore peace in Rivers State.
