Supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio clashed at the National Assembly on Wednesday, staging opposing protests.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s backers gathered early, demanding Akpabio’s resignation over allegations of sexual harassment. They carried placards with bold messages such as “Akpabio must go” and “We stand with Senator Natasha,” urging authorities to investigate the claims thoroughly.

Excitement grew when Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived at the protest site near the Mopol gate. Her supporters erupted in cheers, strengthening their calls for justice.

At the same time, a rival demonstration took place in support of Akpabio. This group, operating under the banner of United Women for Good Governance, held signs reading, “Apologise to the Senate President,” “No to Natasha’s blackmail,” and “Akpabio has always supported Natasha.” They insisted that she withdraw her accusations and offer an apology.

Earlier in the day, security personnel used tear gas to disperse Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters at the National Assembly Arcade. Undeterred, the group later reconvened at the Unity Fountain, determined to continue their protest.

The clash between both sides underscores growing political tensions and increasing demands for accountability. Authorities have yet to respond officially to the demonstrations.
