U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met at the White House to discuss U.S. support and Ukraine’s war with Russia. However, their conversation quickly turned tense, ending in disagreement.
At first, both leaders greeted each other politely. However, Trump soon accused Zelenskyy of not appreciating U.S. military aid. He claimed the U.S. had given $350 billion, though experts estimate the actual amount to be between $119 billion and $175 billion.
Trump warned that refusing peace talks with Russia could lead to a larger war. Vice President JD Vance agreed and criticized Zelenskyy for his strong remarks about Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As tensions escalated, Trump abruptly ended the meeting and told Zelensky to leave.
Before the dispute, both leaders had planned to finalize a deal on Ukraine’s rare-earth minerals. This agreement would have allowed the U.S. to access valuable resources while helping Ukraine repay some of its aid.
However, the argument ruined any chance of an agreement. Trump canceled the deal immediately.
Without this partnership, Ukraine may struggle to secure future U.S. support, which could weaken its position against Russia.
After the meeting, Trump took to social media, stating that Zelensky was “not ready for peace” and had disrespected the U.S.
The reaction was mixed. Some U.S. officials praised Trump for taking a firm stance. However, others feared this dispute would damage U.S.-Ukraine relations.
Meanwhile, Russian officials celebrated the fallout, seeing it as a chance to further isolate Ukraine.
This event highlights the challenges of diplomacy during wartime. As tensions rise, Ukraine now faces even more uncertainty about its future.
