Tensions between the United States and Denmark have escalated rapidly. President Donald Trump suggested that military action could still be an option for Greenland. His statement came after Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen strongly criticized the U.S. administration’s stance.
The situation worsened further after Vice President JD Vance visited Pituffik Space Base in Greenland. During his visit, he accused Denmark of failing to invest enough in Greenland’s security and claimed that the U.S. could provide better protection for the island. However, Danish officials quickly rejected these claims. They reaffirmed their commitment to Greenland’s defense and expressed a willingness to strengthen cooperation with the U.S.
Greenland remains strategically important. It is located near key missile routes and contains valuable natural resources. In the past, the U.S. attempted to buy Greenland. Nevertheless, Denmark and Greenland’s governments firmly refused. They continue to insist that the island remains sovereign.
Trump’s latest comments have already sparked protests in Copenhagen. Many Danes strongly oppose any U.S. attempt to take control of Greenland. As tensions continue to rise, the world is closely watching how this dispute unfolds.
