Osun LG Crisis: NLC Orders Workers to Stay Home Over Insecurity

The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed local government workers in all 30 councils to stay home due to ongoing political tensions.

NLC Chairman, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, issued a fresh statement emphasizing that workers’ safety remains the union’s top priority. He urged members not to resume work until the crisis is resolved.

The situation escalated after Governor Ademola Adeleke swore in newly elected council officials. However, he advised them not to enter the secretariats due to the unrest.

In a statement titled “Safety of Our Members is Non-Negotiable,” Arapasopo reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights. He warned that the NLC would not allow its members to work in an unsafe environment.

“The NLC in Osun State will continue to defend workers. We will not allow intimidation. Justice, fairness, and the rule of law must prevail,” the statement read.

The labour union urged workers to comply with the directive while awaiting a peaceful resolution.
