Tinubu, Not NASS, Stopped My Ministerial Appointment – El-Rufai
Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that President Bola Tinubu, not the National Assembly, prevented him from becoming a minister.
During an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time, El-Rufai denied claims that security concerns led to his rejection. He explained that Tinubu withdrew his nomination despite earlier promises.
“The National Assembly had no role in it. The president didn’t want me in his cabinet,” he said.
El-Rufai, a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), also criticized the party’s leadership. He claimed it had been inactive since Tinubu took office and was not following its original vision.
He revealed that after long discussions, Tinubu promised him a ministerial position with some conditions. However, the president later changed his mind.
On security concerns, El-Rufai dismissed the allegations. He argued that no report existed against him and that less qualified candidates got approved because Tinubu made the final call.
“The president is human and has the right to change his mind,” El-Rufai concluded.
