Ekaette Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has sued Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. She accuses her of defamation and rights violations. The case is now before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. As part of her claims, she is demanding ₦250 billion in damages.
The dispute began after Akpoti-Uduaghan spoke on Arise News on February 20, 2025. During the interview, she alleged that Senate President Akpabio made unwanted advances toward her. Because of this, Ekaette Akpabio argues that she and her children have suffered emotional distress.
The first lawsuit (CV/814/25) focuses on rights violations. In it, she is asking the court to:
- Declare that the remarks violated her fundamental rights.
- Stop Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further statements.
- Award ₦250 billion as compensation for emotional suffering.
Meanwhile, the second lawsuit (CV/816/25) centers on defamation. According to Ekaette Akpabio, these claims have seriously damaged her family’s reputation. Therefore, she is requesting:
- A court declaration that the statements were false and defamatory.
- ₦1 billion in punitive damages.
- A legal order preventing further accusations.
As a result, this lawsuit has further escalated tensions between the two senators. Previously, they had already exchanged accusations. Now, this legal battle has deepened their conflict.
