Mudashiru Obasa has taken back his position as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. His return follows Mojisola Meranda’s resignation earlier in the day.

On January 13, 2025, while Obasa was abroad, 36 out of 40 lawmakers voted to remove him. They replaced him with Meranda, making her the first female Speaker in Lagos Assembly history. However, recent political moves have changed the situation.

Obasa arrived at the Assembly complex on March 3 and met with lawmakers outside the chamber. Meranda also attended, showing efforts to ease tensions.

Some lawmakers support Obasa’s reinstatement, but others oppose it. This disagreement has caused serious divisions in the Assembly.

With Obasa leading again, lawmakers will now focus on restoring order. However, political tensions may continue. More updates will follow soon.
