A fatal accident on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State has claimed 16 lives, leaving three others injured. The crash occurred around Buhari Estate at about 1:00 PM when a white Mazda bus (KJA 949 YJ) caught fire while carrying passengers.
According to reports, the fire started due to a gas cylinder explosion inside the bus. The intense flames left 16 passengers burnt beyond recognition, while three survivors suffered serious injuries.
Rescue officials, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), responded quickly. Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, expressed deep sadness over the tragedy. He urged drivers to avoid transporting gas cylinders in passenger vehicles, as it poses a high risk of fire.
Authorities have advised motorists to take extra precautions. They warned that flammable materials should only be transported by specialized vehicles, not regular passenger buses.
This horrific incident highlights the urgent need for stricter safety measures on Nigerian roads to prevent future disasters.
